Yellow Pig Day, Wrong Way Corrigan Day, Ice Cream Day, more

July 17th, 2011 is Yellow Pig Day, Wrong Way Corrigan Day, National Ice Cream Day, National Peach Ice Cream Day, and Sundae Sunday Day.

Mathematicians unite today in celebration of Yellow Pig Day. Two students at Princeton were assigned the task of analyzing all things 17. In a moment of desperation, boredom, or delirium they created a mythical pig with seventeen toes, seventeen teeth, seventeen.... um..... you get the idea. Time to serve the Yellow Pig Cake!

Wrong Way Corrigan Day pays tribute to a man who was either a terrible pilot or a stubborn adventurer. In the 1930s Douglas Corrigan twice requested permission to fly from New York to Dublin, but twice his request was denied. He then applied to fly from New York to California instead, received permission, but somehow his flight from New York ended in Dublin. Amazing coincidence, eh?

Now get ready to crave ice cream, because this day features three holidays that pay tribute to everybody's favorite cold treat. Take your pick - National Ice Cream Day, National Peach Ice Cream Day, or Sundae Sunday Day.
